Animal Welfare

My top priority above anything else is the welfare of my animals. They are the heart and soul of Lydford Gorge Alpacas and are protected in every way to ensure that their welfare always comes first. That's why I have created the set of 'Our Paca Principles' to share with all of you animal lovers that visit us, to showcase how the boys are considered in the design of your experiences.

Call it the employee charter - if we had a union I am sure Penfold would be in charge of it!

Our Paca Principles

We ALWAYS come first before the business! Our welfare is paramount, after all without us there would be no business.

We follow a well planned husbandry regime to keep us in tip top condition

Treats are carefully controlled (shame but our Mum's the boss!) so we don't get too fat

At on farm experiences we decide if we join in or not. Sometimes we like quiet.

We only trek a maximum of 3 times a week and only ever once per day.

If we are having an 'off' day or weren't feeling comfortable on our last trek we get a day off.

We never trek when the weather is bad (we don't like it!) or if it is too hot.

Our trek route varies so we don't get bored.

If one of us decides we don't like trekking as it makes us nervous, then we don't have to do it.
